Col. Benjamin Simond House

The Col. Benjamin Simond House is a historic house at 643 Simonds Road in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The colonial style wood frame house was built in 1770 by Benjamin Simonds, a veteran of the French and Indian Wars, who was one of Williamstown's early settlers.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=MACRIS inventory record for Benjamin Simonds House )〕 The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983,〔 and now houses a bed and breakfast.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=River Bend Farm Bed and Breakfast )
Simonds was in the military from his teens until his later years. He served in the French and Indian Wars and American Revolutionary War. At age 19, he was captured by the French at Fort Massachusetts, near North Adams, Massachusetts, and held as a prisoner of war in Quebec City. Many he was captured with died, and of the ones who lived, Simonds was the only captive who returned to the area.
